Woman Pleads Not Guilty To Killing College Student

GALESBURG, Ill.--The Galesburg woman accused of killing  Knox College student Tundun Lawani has pleaded not guilty.Lakeesha Smith entered the plea through her attorney in Knox County Circuit Court Wednesday.  She also asked for a trial by jury, all on charges of Reckless Homicide, Aggravated Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol, and Leaving the Scene of an Accident Involving Death.

Police say the 33-year-old woman was intoxicated when her vehicle struck and killed Tundun Lawani as she was crossing South Street on an early October morning. Lawani was taken to an area hospital where she was later pronounced dead.
