An area classroom will stay empty after concerns of mold in the walls.

A complaint of headaches from a fifth grade teacher at Silas Willard Elementary in Galesburg caused the district to do air quality test.

A significant but not dangerous amount of mold allergens was found in the room and the class has been moved to a different area in the building.

A firm from Peoria is conducting air quality test on the rest of the school.

The building is over 100 years old and with the safety and concern of the student the main priority, the future of the historic building is in question.

“We have already put together a plan that would help renovated that building,” Superintendent Bart Arthur told News 8.  “We decided because of the age of that building and conditions like this, that we may consider tearing it down and building a new one.”
