Photo Gallery | Photos: Toy Story-esque exhibit coming to GCAC
GALESBURG, Ill -- The Galesburg Civic Art Center is proud to present an exhibition of works by Lisa Mohr of Galesburg, IL and Steve Carleson of Bishop Hill, IL. The exhibition will be on display Friday, June 29th through Saturday, July 28th in the Galesburg Civic Art Center’s Joanne R. Goudie Gallery. An opening reception will take place on Friday, June 29th from 6-8pm. The reception is free and open to the public.
Lisa Mohr is an Art Coordinator and Instructor at Carl Sandburg College who received her MFA from Bradley University in Peoria, IL. Ms. Mohr will be exhibiting new work and states: “This very personal vocabulary of images allows me to create my own mythological past, inhabited by iconic, curiously familiar figures that confront the view in their own right, in an eternal present.”
Steve Carleson is an artist from Bishop Hill. He runs the Outsider Gallery with his wife, Marsha. Mr. Carleson will be showing Mixed Media work and states: “The boxes and dolls I create are mixed media. They are constructed with bits of found, carefully selected and manufactured objects. My boxes are playful and suggestive. They encourage curiosity and reward the viewer with a peek inside. They are thought provoking and can be read on many levels. They celebrate the socially and politically incorrect and force the observer into a state of self-examination and exploration. Although they seem highly creative, more often they are inspired by random incidents of everyday life.”
The Galesburg Civic Art Center is open Tuesdays through Fridays, 10:30 am - 4:30 pm and Saturdays, 10:30 am - 3:00 pm. For more information, please contact the Galesburg Civic Art Center at 114 E. Main St., Galesburg, IL 61401, (309) 342-7415 or e-mail us at email@example.com. This program is partially funded by a grant from the Illinois Arts Council, a state agency.
